Let’s get honest , Happy Hour, can really be the happiest time of the day, especially on Monday’s. Here are a few places I would definitely recommend in the Uptown Area of San Diego. Uptown? What is that, haha, well I’m talking specifically about Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, and Mission Hills in particular today. I’m gonna break them down by areas and give you a heads up on my favorite cocktails and food items that you need to try.
Patio on Goldfinch – One of the most beautiful outdoor/indoor spaces in San Diego, tucked in the cutest neighborhood Mission Hills. This place happens to be dog friendly too, which in my book gives it extra points on the awesome scale. Get ready for Craft Cocktails and Sustainable Food. Highlights include the Goldfinch Mule, seriously watch this one get made, it’s like a mad scientist experiment, it’s carbonated to order with house made ginger beer and infused Goldfinch tequila. That’s right, house made ginger beer! Other notable cocktails include the French Kiss, a champagne cocktail that they refer to as Brigitte Bardot in a glass, and you can never go wrong with a chilled glass of Chardonnay, Ferrari-Carano, from Sonoma County, an old world style wine (more on wine coming soon!!!).
For food and who doesn’t love a little noshing, I would recommend the Kobe Burger, It’s seriously one of the juiciest burgers ever and has all the right flavors, I like to get mine lettuce wrapped like the one you see above. I also LOVE their house made Ketchup, I could slather it on almost anything (oh and yes I realize fries but no bun? It’s all about balance right 😉 ) Other notable food items are the Hummus Trio and Chips & Queso.
Happy Hour is Daily from 3pm to 6pm and this place also offers Late Night Happy, thank you, from 10pm to Midnight. They have 1/2 Off on Wine, Beer, and Cocktails and Specials on select Food items.
Kous Kous Moroccan Bistro & Lounge – Step into a place far, far away…walking into here is like traveling to another country, you forget you are right in the middle of all the hustle & bustle of Hillcrest. I love bubbles, and this place has one of my favorite Champagne Cocktails the Moroccan Kiss, a mix of bubbles, pomegranate juice, and St. Germain Liqueur, it’s so good my mouth is watering as I write this. Other honorable mentions are the Sit Sin & Desert Rose. If you like lamb you’ve got to try the Moroccan Sliders, they are delicious, a little ground lamb, roasted veggies in a pita roll with a touch of aioli, yum. I also love the Zaalouk, I honestly had no idea what it was, but the waiter recommended it and when in Morocco, try something new 😉 it was so delicious, an eggplant mixture that is so flavorful you won’t want to put the pita down.
Happy Hour is Sunday – Thursday 5pm to 6:30pm and this place also offers Late Night Happy, from 9:30pm to 11pm, and then Friday & Saturday 5pm to 6:30pm & 10pm to 11pm. They have 1/2 Off Drinks and Specials on select Food items.
Barrio Star – Some of the best Tacos & Margaritas in town, everything is so fresh tasting. One of my favorite cocktails is the Roasted Jalapeno Blackberry Margarita, its spicy, sweet and everything nice, those with a low temperament to spice should stay clear of this one. The Barrio Margarita is a classic, its smooth and so refreshing on a hot day. The best thing about all of their drinks is they don’t use sweet & sour mix, so you are getting real agave and fresh squeezed juice. I highly recommend the tacos at anytime but note HH only goes to 6pm on the tacos. My favs are the Steak, Fish and Carnitas, they are so tasty and at $3-4 a pop on HH, you really cannot beat the price. And watch out for their perfectly seasoned chips and salsa, I seriously could eat at least two bowls full by myself, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Happy Hour is Daily from 5pm to 7pm. Offerings include the Barrio Margarita/Sangria/Wine $5 & all Beers $4 and Specials on Food.
I hope you enjoy all of these places! What are your favorite Happy Hour spots in San Diego? I would love to hear your recommendations.
